'Gargoyles, Architecture and Devices'; 'Scholars and Soldiers'; and more

Gargoyles, Architecture and Devices (Mary Gentle) is a nice little article from the woman who, a few years down the road, would write Ash: A Secret History. I've had many requests from people who want to read something challenging, so this is not going to be a review. It is more along the lines of, "Do you really want a challenge? Do you claim to be an historian? Or even a student of history? Hah. Get off and read these:

1. Ash: A Secret History - also published in the US as four volumes as 'A Secret History', 'Carthage Ascendant', 'The Wild Machines' and 'Lost Burgundy'.

2. 1610: A Sundial in a Grave - the difference and the detail which separate love, duty and honourable conduct; and ditto for the separation between real events and history.
